Values are the means ± SEMs. All samples are averaged from at least three independent cultures. For 3841, RU1327, and RU1552, alanine concentrations are higher in glucose-grown cultures than in succinate-grown cultures (P < 0.01). Alanine concentrations are higher in strain 3841 than in RU1327 for both glucose- and succinate-grown cultures (P < 0.05) and are higher in RU1552 than in 3841 when cells are grown on glucose but not when they are grown on succinate at (P < 0.01).
