TGF-β₂ attenuates IL-1β-induced IL-8 secretion in immature human IECs. IL-1β induced a significant increase in IL-8 secretion in H4 cells, and this response was significantly reduced by TGF-β₂ (a). This finding was confirmed in a similar experiment using primary fetal IECs obtained from an 18-week-old fetus (b). However, in the non-transformed adult intestinal epithelial cell line NCM460 (c), IL-1β significantly increased IL-8 secretion, but TGF-β₂ failed to attenuate this response. a ∗ p < 0.05 compared with IL-1β-induced secretion of IL-8.
