Direct suppression of the human (h) CD4+ T-cell response to pig peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) expressing porcine cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 immunoglobulin (pCTLA4-Ig). Human CD4+ T cells (2 × 105 cells/well) were co-cultured with irradiated (2500 cGy) PBMCs (5 × 105 cells/well) either from pCTLA4-Ig-transgenic pigs or wild-type (WT) or α1,3-galactosyltransferase gene-knockout (GTKO) non-transgenic pigs for 5 days (n = 3).
