Extent of tissue responses to variously treated particles were assessed based (A) capsule thickness and (B) cell infiltration distance into particle implants. Polypropylene (PP) coated with different surface functionalities were subcutaneously implanted in Balb/C mice. The animals were sacrificed at 2 weeks post implantations. Values shown reflect the average thickness of the capsule. Vertical lines denote ± 1 SD (n= 4 for –CH₂, -NH₂, -OH, -CF_x and -COOH).
