Central corneal epithelium from 6 samples of control and diabetic were analyzed using real time PCR. Relative expression of the P2X₇ receptor (all variants), P2X_7j variant receptor, and Ki67 were determined using the ΔΔCT method. The average relative expression of 6 independent samples +/− SEM is presented. Significance was determined by Student's t-test: **p<0.002, *p<0.05 respectively.
