CT296 does not functionally complement Fur in E. coli. The H1780 strain of E. coli, containing the indicated plasmids, was grown in LB medium under iron-limiting (2,2-dipyridyl; black bars) or iron-replete (FeSO4, white bars; or FeCl2, gray bars) conditions. β-Galactosidase activity was measured and is displayed in Miller units.
