iPALM imaging reveals that nucleoids are not restricted to ellipsoidal boundaries. TFAM-mEos2-labeled nonelliptical nucleoids exhibit concave, split, and amorphous forms. The fluorescent molecule scale maximum values (representing probability per square nanometer) differ among the panels and range from 0.14 to 0.19.
