Abbreviations: MeCP2, methyl-CpG binding protein 2; S1, primary somatosensory cortex; Ect, ectorhinal cortex; MEnt, entorhinal cortex, medial part; CPu, caudate/putamen; Crus1, superior semilunar lobule; LPMR, lateral posterior nucleus; AVDM, anteroventral nucleus, according to MBL (Mouse Brain Atlas Nomenclatures).

Brain sections of 40 μm obtained from Mecp2+/Y;e1-TgH, Mecp2+/Y;e1-TgL and Mecp2+/Y;e2-Tg mice of 4 weeks of age were stained for anti-MeCP2 and anti-myc or anti-EGFP. The percentage of cells expressing tagged versions of MeCP2 was calculated as cells positive for anti-myc or anti-GFP/cell expressing MeCP2 × 100. At least 50 cells were counted per region per animal (n=3). The specific area from which cell counting was performed is indicated between brackets.
