Joint process and observation model. The physical model defines the state variable u as a function of model parameters θp and initial conditions θx and θt. The imaging models relate u to the image observations ym and ys, representing functional maps and tumor segmentations, respectively. Variables are represented by circles, parameters are shown as squares. We estimate the model parameters θp to characterize the state of disease visible from images y.
