Distances were determined from background corrected DEER signals using either a Gaussian fit or Tikhonov regularization implement in DeerAnalysis 200927. The distribution represents the standard deviation in the width of the distance distribution (this distribution does not contain the minor components seen in Fig. 7c). In the two maltoside samples, dioxane was added to a concentration of 20% (v/v). The uncertainty in the distance determination is ± 0.5 Å or better.
