Transcriptional Regulation of Ethylene ResponsesEIN3 functions as a homodimer and binds to a primary ethylene response element (PERE) in the promoters of various targets. Targets found in various plant systems include genes involved in senescence, ripening, and the Arabidopsis transcription-factor ERF1. The transcription factor ERF1 binds to a GCC box found in the promoters of genes involved in defense, cell elongation, and other members of the ERF transcription-factor family.
