Sites of mutations in the various var2 alleles are illustrated (see also Table 3). Protein and pigment amounts have been reported for most of the alleles (Chen et al., 1999, 2000). Pigment contents provide a measure of the degree of variegation; hatched boxes represent the amount of pigment relative to wild type (100% green) determined on a fresh weight basis using fully-expanded first true leaves.
