Figure 5.
E2 increases M-current activity but not XE991-insensitive K+ currents in NPY neurons. A, The activation of the IM in NPY neurons was recorded from ovariectomized, oil-treated (n = 14), E2-treated (n = 12), and fasted, E2-treated (n = 11) female mice using the protocol described in Figure 3. The current at +10 mV for the three treatments was 231 ± 24, 513 ± 82, and 250 ± 31 pA, respectively. I–V plots were analyzed by a two-way ANOVA (p < 0.001, F = 11.0, df = 2) followed by Bonferroni–Dunn comparison. ap < 0.05; bp < 0.01; cp < 0.001, compared with E2 treated. B, A plot of the conductances at 0 mV between each steroid treatment comparing control, XE991-sensitive and -insensitive currents. C, Summary of the ratio [(Inst-SS)/SS] of the time-dependent (Inst-SS) and SS currents from control and XE991-treated conditions in response to a +10 mV step. *p < 0.05; **p < 0.01. Error bars indicate SEM.
