A schematic illustration of the audio–visual stimuli used in our experiments. The images are static samples from the audio–video clips of a female actor articulating a sentence. The video information was either blurred through pixelation (left of figure) or not blurred (right of figure). The audio channel remained clear throughout both the “blur” and “no blur” presentation modalities.
