Inner radius ri(s, P) is normalized with respect to the current unpressurized inner radius ri(s, P = 0 mmHg). Results for βc = 0.2. Note the strongly sigmoidal behavior at time s = 0, characteristic of large elastic arteries. As elastin degrades and stiffening collagen accumulates, the sigmoidal behavior diminishes and the curves shift to the left at physiologic pressures.
