Estimated annual collective doses from nuclear medicine, for five specific organs and for the whole body. The estimate for the whole body is a weighted average of the estimates for specific organs, using the tissue-weighting factors recommended by the ICRP. These were chosen to represent approximately the relative contributions from different organs to the total number of radiation-induced cancers that would arise following uniform irradiation of the whole body (ICRP, 2007).
