Altered expression of differentiation- and apoptosis-related molecules by NEU3 in human prostate cancer cell lines. (a) NEU3 expression in mRNA and sialidase activity levels in LNCaP cells and PC-3 cells. The data given are mean values from five to seven experiments±S.D. P-values (*P=0.015, **P=0.0003) were evaluated by the Student's t-test, and compared with PC-3 cells. (b) Apoptosis induction of PC-3 and LNCaP cells by treatment with sodium butyrate, and apoptosis suppression by NEU3 overexpression. Apoptosis was assessed by FACS analysis with AnnexinV. Results are representative of three independent experiments.
