The amount of heme is represented as the mean concentration of heme detected ± the standard error (nM) for equal starting concentrations of KatA protein for each strain tested. Experiments were repeated in biological quadruplicate. The Student t test was used to determine statistical significance with P values of <0.05 (*) considered significant.
