(A) Rubie contains ten potential open reading frames longer than 50 bp. The longest (ORF1) would encode a 120 amino acid (aa) protein, but is only present in mice from the C57 lineage. Other strains have a termination codon in exon 2, which truncates the ORF at 45 aa. (B) The mammalian conservation track of the UCSC Genome Browser (http://genome.ucsc.edu/) shows that the exon sequence of Rubie is poorly conserved across species.
