Compared to lipopolysacchrade (LPS)-free mice (a), marked vacuolar degeneration of tubular cells were noted in LPS-injected mice (b). Such vacuolar changes were markedly suppressed in either pretreated group (c) or posttreated group (d). Quantitative estimation of the degenerated cells confirmed the effects of aldose reductase inhibitor (e). Magnification of the pictures was all x320. Each group consists of 6 animals.
