These are produced by subjecting the symmetrical training stimuli to a transformation that would be produced by a 40° horizontal combined with a 20° vertical rotation of the pattern on a spherical surface viewed from a large distance relative to the diameter of the sphere (according to the algorithm described in appendix A).
