Western blots comparing SPLUNC1 in human saliva from 20 systemically healthy subjects. There were bands indicative of SPLUNC1 in all saliva supernatants. Note that saliva SPLUNC1 runs higher on the SDS PAGE gel than rhSPLUNC1 possibly because of glycosylation. Also there is a 17–20 kDa lower band that is a breakdown product of full length SPLUNC1 often observed with both rhSPLUNC1 and native SPLUNC1.
