RT-PCR was carried out on the transcription levels of desat1 and desat2 for male and female flies from Tai (Ivory Coast), and Z6 and Z1; differences in comparison to AL flies are shown as stars above/below bars (*: P<0.05; **: P<0.01). Significant differences in transcript levels ratio between Z1, Z6 and Tai strains (shown as different letters above/below bars) were detected with the Relative Expression Software Tool (REST, REST-MCS beta software version 2⁴⁷) where the iteration number was fixed at 2000.
