S. suis CPS blocks the internalization of latex beads by macrophages. J774 macrophages were incubated with latex beads covalently linked to CPS (Beads-CPS) or unlinked beads (Control) for 1 h and 2 h. Cells were stained with rabbit anti-S. suis antibodies to detect CPS-linked beads (green) and with rat anti-LAMP1 antibody to show that beads were located inside the cells (red). Compared to control beads, CPS-linked beads are poorly internalized by macrophages. DIC, differential interference contrast.
