Odor-induced 2DG uptake in olfactory glomeruli. (A) [14C]-2-deoxyglucose local uptake in the glomerular region of the OB under odor stimulation (benzaldehyde 2%) is weaker in GLAST-/- mice compared to control animals. In the representative digitized autoradiograms, gray scale illustrates the level of 2DG uptake for one animal of each genotype (left: GLAST+/+; right: GLAST-/-) and for four consecutive slices of 20 μm thickness. Activated glomerular regions are the black areas at the periphery of the structure (arrows). (B) Relative 2DG uptake averaged for all the animals [GLAST+/+ (n = 11); GLAST-/- (n = 11)] shows that odor-evoked increase in 2DG uptake was significantly reduced in GLAST-/- mice.
