(A) The invasion potential of several human HNSCC cell lines including SCC1 (derived from the oral cavity), SCC5 (derived from the larynx), FaDu (derived from the pharynx) and OSC19 (derived from a lymph-node metastases from the tongue) were assessed using a Boyden chamber cell invasion assay. Equal numbers of cells were loaded and after 48 h incubation, invasive cells were detected on the membrane by staining with crystal violet. (B) The invasive cells were counted and the results expressed as the mean number of invasive cells±SD/microscopic field, magnification: ×10. Significantly higher versus other cells, * P<0.001.
