DF 2156A blockade decreases inflammatory cell influx and angiogenesis. Polyether–polyurethane sponge discs were used as the matrix for fibrovascular tissue growth. Parameters were evaluated 7 days after sponge implantation. DF 2156A (10 mg·kg−1) or PBS vehicle were given s.c. daily. (A) PMN and (B) macrophage accumulation in implants were evaluated by measuring MPO and NAG activities, respectively. Angiogenesis in implants was measured by evaluating haemoglobin concentration (C). Sections of H&E-stained of sponges from vehicle- (D) and DF 2156A-treated (E) animals are shown. Arrows indicate blood vessels on sponge matrix (SM). 400× magnification. Values represent the mean ± SEM of six to eight animals for each group. *P < 0.05 versus PBS-treated sponges by Student–Newman–Keuls post-test.
