Astroglia played a major role in SAHA-induced neuroprotective effect. SAHA or vehicle was added to the following cultures: (A) neuron-enriched culture, (B) neuron–microglia co-culture and (C) neuron–astroglia co-culture. Dopaminergic neuron function was determined by [³H] dopamine (DA) uptake assay. Medium control cultures were set as 100%. Data show mean ± SEM from three independent experiments, each carried out in duplicate.
