Locomotor performance during daily training sessions was scored using a 0–3 scale that assessed their ability to perform independent stepping without assistance by the trainers to move the hindlimbs: 0, No independent stepping; 1, independent stepping less than half of the 1000 steps; 2, independent stepping greater than half of the 1000 steps; 3, independent stepping for all of 1000 steps. The average locomotor score was calculated over 30 training sessions (5 sessions per week for 6 weeks) for each rat.
