DBL thickness (µm), net photosynthesis rate (PN) and dark respiration rate (RD, both in nmol O2 cm−2 s−1) at the three sampling points (‘Coral’, ‘Interface’ and ‘Alga’) for each coral-algal interaction type (coral-turf and coral-CCA). Data are means ±95% Confidence Intervals. Note that oxygen fluxes at the interface between coral and algae were not calculated directly from the microprofiles due to violated assumptions in the one-dimensional Fick's first law of diffusion. Therefore the flux at the interface was modeled.
