Blinded quantification of the inflammatory index after HE-staining, CD3 positive cells, Mac-3 positive macrophages/microglia, iNOS positive cells, demyelination after Luxol Fast Blue staining and axonal densities after silver impregnation were performed on day 15 p.i. marking the acute phase of the disease. Data are presented as cells/mm2 for CD3, Mac-3, iNOS positive cells, percent demyelination for Luxol Fast Blue and relative axonal densities for silver impregnated axons. n.s = not significant.
