Hypoxia induces alterations in glucose uptake but not free fatty acid uptake. Differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes were subjected to normoxia or hypoxia (38% reduction of ambient oxygen) as outlined in materials and methods. Cells were analyzed for Oil red O (A), Hyproxyprobe-1 levels (B), insulin-stimulated glucose uptake (C), and insulin-stimulated free fatty acid uptake (D) as outlined in materials and methods.
