The domain organization and possible relationships of chordate teneurins. There are four teneurins in mouse (Mus musculus) and chicken (Gallus gallus). Basic features are highly conserved between mouse (A), chicken (B), and human teneurins (fig. 1). There are five teneurin genes in the zebrafish, Danio rerio, including two teneurin-2 paralogs. The ICD of the predicted teneurin-1 does not have an NLS, and an additional furin cleavage site is found between the NHL domains and the YD repeats (C). The genomes of the tunicate Ciona intestinalis and the cephalochordate Branchiostoma floridae each contain a single teneurin gene (D).
