X-ray distance distribution function P(r) analyses for the four MBL oligomers. The P(r) curves correspond to concentrations of 0.46, 1.15, 0.92, and 0.70 mg/ml for the monomer, dimer, trimer, and tetramer, respectively. The peak maxima M1 and M2 depict the two most common distances within the MBL structures. The intensities of the four P(r) curves were normalized to peak M1 to clarify the dependence of M2 and L on oligomer size. The maximum length of the MBL oligomer is denoted by L at the r value where the P(r) curve reaches 0. Their values for the monomer, dimer, trimer, and tetramer (L1–L4) were determined to be 22, 31, 38, and 47 nm, respectively.
