Reelin and apoE3 induce ABCA1 expression and cholesterol efflux. Mouse macrophages were incubated with 3 μg/ml apoE3 (A) or 2 μg/ml reelin (B) for the indicated time periods. The mRNA level of ABCA1 was determined by quantitative real-time RT-PCR and normalized to GAPDH mRNA. C and D, macrophages were incubated with 3 μg/ml apoE3, 2 μg/ml reelin, or culture medium alone (control) for 1 h. The level of ABCA1 protein was determined by Western blot analysis and quantitated relative to β-actin.
