Age-adjusted prevalence and proportion: direct adjustment using the Thai registered population 2008; OR: Odds ratio for metabolic syndrome (urban = 1, rural = 0) adjusted for age and education level; prevalence were calculated among the population, proportions were calculated among those having metabolic syndrome; a urban have significantly higher prevalence compared to rural areas, b rural have significantly higher prevalence compared to urban areas; WC: abdominal obesity (waist circumference ≥ 90 cm. in men and ≥ 80 cm. in women); HDL, low high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (< 40 mg/dL in men and < 50 mg/dL in women); BP, high blood pressure (≥ 130/85 mmHg or hypertension); FG, hyperglycemia (fasting plasma glucose ≥ 100 mg/dL or diabetes)
