The effect of viscoelasticity on mechanotransduction: frequency resonance. In the viscoelastic model, resonance appears in the response of channels to a force applied to the hair bundle. Varying the channels’ mean open time τ alters the peak of the linear response. Three values of τ are shown: τ = τ0 = 1.26 ms (yellow), τ = τ0/2 (orange), and τ = τ0/4 (red). The response of the canonical model is shown for comparison (blue).
