An optimized genetic code with the same block structure and degeneracy as the standard code obtained as a result of combinatorial optimization of the amino acid assignments to four- and two-codon series. The optimization was performed by using the Great Deluge algorithm (140). The codon series are shaded in accordance with the polar requirement scale values as in Figure 1.
