Time course of ⁵⁵Fe uptake during batch short-term Fe uptake assays using cells obtained at steady state from the chemostat cultures grown with an [Fe]_T value of 20 nM in the inflowing medium and dilution rates of 0.09 day⁻¹ (diamonds), 0.14 day⁻¹ (squares), 0.17 day⁻¹ (triangles), and 0.25 day⁻¹ (circles). In the short-term uptake assay, each culture was incubated in Fraquil* with either 20 μM EDTA (A) or 200 μM EDTA (B) and constant concentration of radiolabeled ⁵⁵Fe (200 nM). Symbols represent the means and error bars represent the standard deviations from triplicate experiments. The continuous lines were obtained by linear regression of data collected within 4 h (represented by closed symbols) for each culture.
