Growth on Zn-limited medium. Mid-log-phase strains grown in DT broth were serially diluted 10-fold and spotted on DT agar with 2.0 mM EGTA (A) or DT agar with EGTA and 500 μM ZnSO4 (B). Growth on EGTA plates supplemented with Mn, Mg, Fe, and Ca was no different from growth on EGTA alone for all strains (data not shown).
