^aTransductants were tested for their ability to grow on media containing arabinose (+ara), which induces expression of the complementing trxA and trxC, and on media containing glucose (+glu), which represses expression from the complementing plasmids. + indicates that a strain was able to grow (formed large colonies in 1 to 2 days at 37°C) under the indicated condition, while 0 indicates that a strain was unable to grow. The nrdABp allele was checked by PCR, as described in Materials and Methods, and was wild type in each case.
