Histochemically stained cones and Müller cells were counted in the central, midperipheral, and peripheral areas of guinea pig retinae (n = 5). Absolute cell densities vary among the retinal regions whereas the cone/Müller cell ratio remains virtually constant at 1.5 (mean values ± SDs).
