Description of the stimuli. a, Front view. The two half-images composed of dynamic random dots contained the same monocular information. In the first set of conditions, the dots in the annulus were uncorrelated. In the second set, the dots in the left eye matched with dots in the right eye, creating a static surround at zero disparity. b, 3D view of the fused half-images.
