Berberine stimulates apoptosis in macrophages in vitro. RAW 264.7 cells and peritoneal macrophages were treated with the indicated concentrations of berberine for 18 h. Apoptosis was detected by annexin V and PI staining (A). Total cellular lysates were collected for detecting caspase-3 activation by Western blot analysis (B).
