Result of scanning electron microscopy after 8 weeks with three layers of cells shows the formed tissue tightly enclosing the Stainless Steel mesh; (A) endothelial surface layer (blue) starts covering the construct right after culturing around it; (B) after 8 weeks, the tissue shows three different cell layers in sequence; surface endothelial layer (blue), middle fibroblast/myofibroblast (emerald green), and base layer of smooth muscle (bright green); (C) and (D) show that the mesh is tightly integrated within the tissue construct, and the cells are penetrating through the mesh opening holes. The tissue is intentionally sliced before microscopy to visualize the layers and the mesh.
