^aCD44^high and CD44^low cells from a primary tumor (HN-111) and 4 cell lines were injected via the tail vein into NOD/SCID mice. Lungs were evaluated for metastasis via sectioning or bioluminescent imaging. CD44^high cells formed lung metastases 8/17 times vs. 0/17 times by CD44^low cells.
