Pericentral necrosis after acetaminophen intoxication. Rats were treated with a repeated oral dose of 4 g/kg body weight of acetaminophen. Eighteen hours later livers were explanted and slices prepared for hemalaun–eosin staining. Dashed lines exemplify initial (area 1) and final necrotic perivenous areas (area 2, cv, central vein) of the liver tissue. Please note that areas around the portal vein (pv) are void of tissue damage.
