Plasmin degrades Aβ and pAβ. A–C, synthetic npAβ and pAβ were incubated with purified plasmin at 37 °C for various time intervals (0, 5, 15, 30, and 60 min). Aliquots of the reaction mixture were analyzed by SDS-PAGE and silver staining (A and B) or by MALDI-TOF-MS (C). The main cleavage products representing Aβ(1–28) and Aβ(1–16) fragments were generated in both peptide variants. The corresponding masses of the cleavage products are given in Table 1.
