Effect of subinhibitory concentrations of TC and EG on S. Enteritidis growth (n = 6/treatment group). The treatment groups did not differ significantly from the controls (P > 0.05). Tubes containing 20 ml LB broth were inoculated with ∼10⁶ CFU/ml of S. Enteritidis. TC or EG was added at increments of 1 mg/μl (from 0 to 10 mg/μl) and incubated at 37°C for 24 h. Samples drawn at various intervals of incubation were diluted and plated on TSA, before enumeration after incubation at 37°C for 24 h. The highest concentration of TC or EG that did not inhibit S. Enteritidis growth after 24 h was taken as the respective SIC.
