In normal adults, neural stems cells in the SVZ (in green) proliferate to generate new neuroblasts. Neuroblasts migrate rostrally along the RMS (in green) to the olfactory bulb (OB). In response to cortical lesion (in red), a large number of neuroblasts migrate to the site of lesion.
